While there is no explicit “research” in the game, your ability to acquire technologies is locked behind player capabilities. This progression loop in Subnautica is very satisfying. Its primary reward loop is finding resources and blueprints crafting them into tools and vehicles, and then using your newly improved character and tools to discover new areas and even more powerful tools.
